HOUSING SUPPORT FOR ERIN AND ZOE
HOUSING SUPPORT FOR TWO AMAZING ACTIVISTS
We, as friends of Erin Sharkey and Zoe Hollomon, have created this Go Fund Me campaign to assist Erin and Zoe with housing support. We asked them if we could help in this way, and we undertake this campaign with their knowledge and approval.
BACKGROUND / REQUEST FOR SUPPORT
Erin and Zoe have been living in an apartment in Powderhorn Park since April, 2013. A couple of months ago, a habitability issue arose at their apartment. Their efforts to resolve matters amicably with their landlord led to a short-notice termination of their lease by their property manager. Erin and Zoe have until the end of September to leave their apartment.
So, during a global pandemic that included a temporary health-related evacuation from their apartment in June, followed by a significant habitability issue in July and August, Erin and Zoe have also managed the stress and fatigue associated with a summer of civil uprising that has called both of them forward in community to support the work toward racial justice. The pandemic and uprising have taken an emotional toll on so many families, and their family is no exception. Now they are also scrambling to move at the beginning of a busy school year.
As a result of all these things, Erin and Zoe suddenly find themselves facing challenges related to:
Habitability at their current apartment
Having their lease terminated on short notice
Covering a security deposit and 1st month’s rent at a new place
Moving by the end of the month
Starting a new academic year while trying to move
Continuing their work to promote much-needed change in our community
A bit of good news: Erin and Zoe have signed a lease on a place in Nordeast, and they’ll move in October 1st. Our goal is to make that move as easy as possible, to take stress off of them during this stressful time, and to maybe allow them to add or replace a piece of furniture or two.
Because Erin and Zoe do so much to make our community better, more loving and more beautiful, because they support so many people so often, we wanted to make their lives easier and support them as they find a place where they can feel safe and comfortable. Their home should be a place of sanctuary for them.
Our goal is to raise the goal amount by September 20th.
This is the work of community. All of us doing a little will matter a lot. Thanks for your support of Erin and Zoe.
All money raised will go to Erin and Zoe’s moving fund, furnishing their new house, and, to the extent any funds are left over, toward a down payment on a home they hope to buy in 2021 or 2022.
