Housing for Pregnant Black Mama and her Infant

Donation protected
TL;DR: Help us raise $4,000 to support a 21-year-old pregnant mama’s housing and survival

Rhema Brown, 21, is the epitome of the housing crisis in Prince George’s County, one of the nation’s ‘wealthiest’ Black suburbs. As a pregnant mama of a 18-month-old, she has been to the County’s only emergency housing facility for women, but they do not have room for her or her baby. Prince George’s County’s public housing voucher program and wait list are closed indefinitely, as well.

Rhema was bailed out through #FreeBlackMamasDMV in 2020, but hasn’t had stable housing since her mother kicked her out shortly after she was released. Now, at 10 weeks pregnant, she’s terrified that the stress of not having housing will impact her pregnancy.

You can help support Rhema and her growing family by giving to this GoFundMe. All proceeds will be used to support paying for a year of rent + furnishings for Rhema so that she can give birth with stability.

In the meantime, she will continue to volunteer with Life After Release’s community closet and work on her job-readiness skills with LAR’s Job Club.

Please give, share, and tell a friend. To learn how you can support freeblackmamasdmv’s ongoing efforts to build long-term housing for criminalized women, visit http://lifeafterrelease.org
