On Monday, November 10th, my sister Jessica’s life was turned upside down when an electrical fire broke out at her home.

Jessica and her daughter, Clementine along with their pets are thankfully safe. In the wake of losing our mom only weeks ago, knowing they are safe is what matters most, and we are all so incredibly grateful for that.

The area touched by flames was limited to the kitchen. When Jessica first texted me the photos, i thought it didn’t seem too bad, but I was so wrong! When I stepped inside the house and saw the wreckage, smelled the smoke, and walked through the debris, I couldn’t believe the damage. The beautiful, warm, safe space my sister created for her and her daughter was destroyed. Smoke travelled through the entire home, damaging almost everything it touched. The house is uninhabitable, will need to be gutted, and they won’t be able to return for many months.

Losing our mom still doesn’t feel real most days, and having this happen only a few weeks later has compounded the grief and heartbreak in ways that are hard to put into words.

The outpouring of love and support they’ve received this week has meant the world to them. So many people have been asking how they can help. While donating items is such a generous and thoughtful gesture, they currently have very limited space as we work to secure them a short-term rental and figure out next steps to carry them through the holidays.

If you would like to support Jessica and Clementine, a monetary donation would truly make the biggest difference right now.

Your generosity will help them replace essential items, enjoy a stress-free meal, cover a day off work, access mental health support, and prepare for the challenges they may face in the weeks and months ahead so many of which are still unknown.

While insurance will thankfully help with some aspects of recovery, it simply won’t cover everything.

Thankfully, Jessica and Clementine are being held up by an amazing community of friends, family, and neighbours. I know that together, we can help get them through this.

Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for supporting them through this unimaginable time.

P.S. We have also prepared a wish list of helpful items that can be purchased and delivered to their current location.
