Hi, my name is Mark. The past few years have been an emotional struggle, watching my mum's health deteriorate after being diagnosed with dementia. Initially we tried to keep her in her home for as long as possible but eventually her needs were too great. We needed to find a care home so she was safe and cared for properly. Anyone who has gone through this will tell you how difficult this is, to take your parent from their family home and leave them in a place that they do not know. After mum had been at Hourigan House for around 12 months, we had to go through the same emotional rollercoaster again as my mother-in-laws health started to go down hill and was getting to the point that she was no longer safe in her own home. Me and my wife had to go through it all again. This time however, we knew who and where to look. A few weeks later we had both mums in the same care home, Hourigan House in Westleigh. The staff are amazing, making sure each and every one of the residents are looked after and cared for. They care for around 40 residents all with various health issues. I know they have a small budget for activities likes arts and crafts, trips out or getting entertainment in so I have decided to run the 'Wilmslow Festive 10k' to try and raise a few extra pounds so that the residents can have the best Christmas 2025 Party ever...and who knows if I raise enough it may roll on to welcoming the New Year in.
