Hornsey Library Square Community Bench
Donation protected
We did it! Thank you so much to everyone that donated and helped us reach our target.
You are amazing!! We will be placing the order for the bench this week so we can try and get it in place as soon as possible!
Thank you again. Luke.
The Crouch End Festival team (Chris, Chris, Bev and Amanda) and I, Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison (Lib Dem Councillor for Crouch End), are running a joint fundraiser for
an additional (third) bench to be located in the newly renovated Hornsey Library Square (next to the library and fountain), for the whole community to sit on and enjoy.
This is in addition to the two already very well utilised benches which were installed in October and funded by the Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum, and would complete our original plans for three benches in the square.
The funding goal is for the procurement of a matching third bench, delivery and installation.
Background:
After years of a lack of maintenance and investment in the Square to the side, and concourse to the front, of Hornsey Library, as well as the fountain and its majestic statue, a small group of us convened, securing funding for the renovation of the space around the library, and the restoration and upgrade of the Hornsey Library Fountain.
The group, consisting of Mark Afford (Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum), Amanda Carrara (Crouch End Festival), Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison (Lib Dem ward councillor for Crouch End), Julie Trew (Friends of the Zen) and David Winskill (Friends of Hornsey Library), worked with Haringey Council from late 2020 to late 2023 to design and deliver the project, which has transformed the space around the library into a new destination area for Crouch End with wonderful annual flower beds, a water and light fountain show, and calm and relaxed seating.
Unfortunately due to unforeseen additional costs associated with the works, the project was unable to fully fund the final piece which was three benches around the Hornsey Library Square so that the local community could sit and enjoy the space.
Thanks to a generous bequest left by a local resident to the Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum, the Forum were able to fund two of these three benches, and they were installed last Autumn.
As you local councillor for Crouch End, alongside the Crouch End Festival, we are hoping to now crowdfund the amount needed to get the final bench produced, and installed to match the other two.
We hope you will support us!
