Hope In Action: Emergency Aid & Community Protection

Donation protected
Hope In Action (HIA) is a grassroots, community-led organization built on a simple belief: hope only matters when it moves.

In just nine months, we have grown into a trusted network supporting immigrants, migrant workers, and vulnerable families through direct action, mutual aid, education, and community protection.

What We’ve Accomplished So Far
Together, we have:
  • Built an ICE Rapid Response Network and provide education on how to create similar networks in other communities
  • Offer know-your-rights education, including English/Spanish language support
  • Support families through Blessing Boxes, food pantries, and rotating mutual aid efforts that shift based on real-time community needs
  • Distributed Christmas gifts to 100 children, supported 15 local families, and sent aid to a migrant worker’s family in Chiapas, Mexico
  • Organized month-long food drives, collected winter gear for migrant workers, and provided ongoing support for Hispanic and other marginalized communities
  • Worked directly with city leadership, including the mayor, city commission, and chief of police, to advocate for policies and practices that better protect our neighbors

We don’t just show up — we stay.

Why We’re Fundraising Now
As immigration enforcement escalates, families are being torn apart with little warning. We are working to establish emergency funds so that when someone is detained, we can respond immediately with:
  • Bond assistance
  • Legal support and referrals (we already work with trusted legal resources)
  • Household expenses when a breadwinner is suddenly taken
  • Rapid response coordination to keep families informed and supported
  • Gear and supplies essential to community safety and education, including:
  • Whistle-making kits
  • Know-Your-Rights literature
  • Rapid response and mutual aid materials
Funding is the difference between knowing what needs to be done and being able to act fast enough when it matters most.

Community Safety: Whistle Kit Program
One of our ongoing community safety initiatives is our Whistle Kit Program. Whistles are a simple but powerful tool — they help alert neighbors, deter harassment, and create immediate visibility when someone feels unsafe.

If you, your household, your organization, or your community would like some whistles, please email us directly | Subject line: Whistle

We do ask that it is clearly understood these whistles are not toys — they are community safety tools. Whistles should only be used during approved emergency situations, such as signaling danger, requesting immediate help, or alerting others to an active safety concern.

Used responsibly, whistles help create visibility, deterrence, and rapid neighbor response — one more way we look out for each other.

Disclaimer: Whistles provided by Hope In Action are intended solely as non-violent community safety signaling tools and are not toys, weapons, or law-enforcement devices, and must be used responsibly and only during appropriate emergency situations.

Where We’re Headed
Hope In Action is currently fully grassroots and volunteer-run, but we are actively working toward becoming a registered nonprofit so we can expand our reach, stabilize funding, and respond even faster in moments of crisis.

In just nine months, we’ve shown what is possible when communities organize with care, urgency, and solidarity — from mutual aid to policy advocacy, from education to direct protection.

Everything we do is rooted in care, not charity — community defense, shared responsibility, and collective survival.

How You Can Help
