Hi, I’m Heather — and this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write.
On July 12th, 2024, my husband Darien (age 37) was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. We’ve faced one of the darkest years of our lives, and thanks to incredible support, he made it through multiple surgeries and lived with an ileostomy bag for over a year.
Recently, he underwent major surgery to reconnect his bowel, repair a baseball-sized hernia, and remove his largest tumor. It was a huge step forward — but our journey isn’t over. Darien is still living with a diagnosis of Stage 4 metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma, with cancer present in his liver and lymph nodes. He now faces more chemotherapy, ongoing hospital visits, and a long road of healing.
Meanwhile, I’m preparing for my own triple hernia repair surgery. We’re trying to move to a more affordable home, care for our two large dogs, and stay afloat — all while not being able to work. As a result, we are trying to manage significant financial strain to keep up with the basics: bills, groceries, gas, dog food, car payments.
We've always tried to be strong. Tried to carry the weight of it all...
But right now? We need to ask for help.
