Supporting Our Mom Through Stage 4 —Metastatic Breast Cancer

I never imagined I would be writing this, but our family is facing something incredibly difficult.

My mom has recently been diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. This is her third battle with cancer in the last 13 years. The second time she faced breast cancer, she underwent a single mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, believing she had finally put it behind her. Now, heartbreakingly, the cancer has spread outside her chest wall, and she will require continuous testing and treatment for the rest of her life.

Since her reconstructive surgery last December, she has been unable to work due to complications with the surgery and healing, which led to an infection. She will also need additional surgery to repair the area on her abdominal region where skin, nerves, and cells were taken for the reconstruction and later affected by the infection.

This diagnosis has been devastating for her. She is a mother of four children — Nicole (Sean), Ashley, Faith (Cole), and Owen (Jade) — and a grandmother to five beautiful grandkids: Julia, Mason, Vaeda, Lucas, and Zoë, who are the light of her life. She has always been the strong one — the one who shows up, who cares deeply, and who gives endlessly to others. She has always treated everyone as if they were her own, whether they were friends, family, or coworkers. So many people know her lovingly as Mama Moe. That’s just who she is.

She has worked her entire life, always providing for herself and her family. Not being able to do so now has been incredibly hard on her. Losing that independence and the ability to fully support herself has deeply affected her pride, making this journey even more emotionally difficult.

Because of the hormone medications she must take and a deteriorating bone disease, she is unable to work. She also does not drive. While her daughter is able to drive her to appointments when schedules align, she often must rely on taxis to get to doctor’s appointments, hospital visits, scans, and tests. These trips are frequent, ongoing, and costly.

We are asking for help to raise $5,000 to support her with transportation to and from medical appointments, medications not fully covered, rent and basic living expenses, and groceries and daily necessities.

We know this is a big ask, and we don’t expect to reach the full goal — but any amount, no matter how small, truly helps. Every donation eases a little of the stress and allows her to focus on what matters most: fighting this disease and spending time with her family.
