Rebuild Hope for Indonesian Fishermen After Devastating Sea Storms
Location: West Java, Indonesia
Organized in partnership with members of the Local Fishermen’s Union of Banten, Indonesia
Imagine waking up one morning to find the ocean — your source of life and livelihood — has taken everything from you.
That’s the tragic reality facing dozens of families in a small fishing village on the coast of West Java, Indonesia, where recent violent sea storms and extreme weather patterns have destroyed the very boats and equipment these fishermen rely on to survive.
This isn’t just about boats. It’s about families. It’s about food. It’s about survival.
⚠️ What Happened?
In late July 2025, a series of powerful storms battered the coastline of West Java. Torrential rains, high winds, and massive waves ravaged the small fishing community in Banten, capsizing boats, shredding nets, and flooding storage huts.
Most families in the village live day to day. They don’t have savings. They don’t have insurance. They have the ocean — and now, not even that.
Who Are We Helping?
We’re raising funds to directly support fishermen and their families in partnership with members of a local fishermen’s union of Banten, a community-organized group that ensures fair distribution of aid and transparency in how every dollar is spent.
These are generational fishermen — fathers and sons, mothers and daughters — who’ve harvested sustainably from the sea for decades. Their fish feed local markets, support community schools, and help balance coastal ecosystems.
Where Will the Money Go?
Your donation will go 100% toward rebuilding and replacing essential fishing infrastructure, including:
• Boats (estimated $1,500–$3,000 each)
• Fishing nets, traps, and lines
• Basic tools and engine repairs
• Storage sheds and drying areas for fish
• Emergency relief for affected families (food, medicine, school supplies)
Funds are distributed through union representatives with full community accountability and documented oversight. No funds will go to administrative costs or outside organizations.
Why Should You Care?
• Climate change and ocean warming are creating more severe and unpredictable weather — especially affecting low-income, coastal communities in the Global South.
• These fishermen have done nothing to cause the climate crisis, yet they bear the heaviest burdens.
• Your donation, however small, makes a direct impact — from helping a fisherman replace a lost net to giving a child food and school supplies.
You’re not just helping rebuild boats — you’re helping restore dignity, purpose, and a way of life for people who live in harmony with nature and contribute silently to the world’s food security.
How You Can Help:
1. Donate — Every dollar counts. Even $10 buys a replacement tool or fuel for a week.
2. Share this campaign with your network, especially anyone with ties to Indonesia, environmental justice, or coastal livelihoods.
3. Sponsor a Boat — Want to fully fund a new boat? Your generosity will help get Banten fishermen back to sea.
