Turning the Tide: Let's Build Food Sovereignty for Siargao

Hi everyone, Jamie and Carmen here. Most of you know us from Booth, but today we’re stepping away from the usual to share a project that’s hit home for us.

We’ve spent a lot of time on the island of Siargao, and we’ve seen and felt the magic Hope for the Island creates. It’s more than a center; it’s a literal lifeline for kids who need it most. But they have a vulnerability: they rely almost entirely on outside donations. To keep the lights on and the plates full for the long haul, they need to be the masters of their own kitchen.

The Reality Check

On an island where one storm can reset months of hard work, food security isn’t a given—it’s a fight. Currently, 80% of Siargao’s fresh produce is imported. That leaves families stuck with high costs and a supply chain that’s as unpredictable as the weather.

We want to help them break that cycle.

The "Full-Circle" Plan

We aren't just looking for a band-aid. We’re helping Hope for the Island build a sustainable greenhouse and farm. The goal is a "Full-Circle" ecosystem that focuses on:

  • Resilient Education: Teaching agricultural techniques that actually stand up to the elements.
  • Greenhouse Defense: Providing the physical structures needed to protect crops from extreme weather.
  • Economic Independence: Moving families from survival mode to a sustainable business model where they can sell surplus crops and earn a real income.

Your Impact is Doubled

This isn't just about building a structure; it’s about seeding a local economy. We’re making sure these kids have nutrition that isn't dependent on whether or not a delivery boat can dock.

Here’s the best part: every dollar you give BOOTH will match it. Your $50 becomes $100, and your $500 becomes $1,000. It’s a direct investment into the future of this community, and every cent goes further today.
