Last Sunday evening my brother called me from Ireland to tell me the most devastating news, the medical team had found a tumour in my gorgeous handsome superbrave 6 year old nephew. Conor had to have CT scan, bloods taken, MRI and lumbar puncture (fluid taken from the spine). The medical team found the tumour in Conor’s brain stem....this is the area that controls breathing and blood pressure. Conor did not complain/cry once! (The adults did). Conor is from Cork but the specialist paediatric neuro surgeons are in Dublin 3 hour drive from Cork. Conor was transferred by ambulance that night with my brother when he got to Dublin he asked his Dad “why am I here Daddy” I flew home to see him and drove to Dublin. He had slurred speech and the speech and language therapist deemed his swallow unsafe and he had to have an NG tube for feeding. All he wanted was spaghetti bolognaise but this we could not do....imagine trying to explainer that to a 6 year old boy!
Conor had a biopsy Tuesday unfortunately it was an inadequate sample and had to have a repeat biopsy yesterday and spent the night in ICU intubated.
Conor has won the hearts of all the nurses at Temple Street Hospital. He is an amazing little boy. We are all heartbroken. Conor’s parents need emotional support but as we all know the bills also need to be paid. I’m feeling completely hopeless but hope I can help somewhat. As a cancer nurse specialist myself I am struggling to understand everything and I’m a healthcare professional.
Any donation little or small or even positive thoughts would be appreciated.
