Hope for a better Christmas after loss

I am reaching out with humility and a sincere request for assistance in making Christmas possible for my children this year. This year has brought more challenges than I ever could have anticipated, and despite doing everything I can, I’m struggling to provide the kind of holiday they deserve.

I have created this GoFundMe, as well as individual Amazon wish lists that the kids put together themselves. Many of the items are bigger than I would ever expect anyone to purchase, but I included their lists exactly as they wrote them, hoping that—even in some small way—they might experience a bit of the joy and wonder of the season.

As a mother, asking for help does not come easily. My children are my entire world, and I am doing everything possible to give them a Christmas filled with warmth and good memories. Last year’s Christmas is one they will never forget—but not for the reasons any child should remember a holiday. My husband, whom they loved dearly, passed away on Christmas morning. It was the most devastating moment of our lives. Since then, I have done everything in my power to help my son, niece, and nephews —whom I am now raising alone—heal and feel safe.

My eldest nephew is autistic, and all three children have faced significant challenges in the school system, including bullying and neglect. To protect them and ensure they receive the education they deserve, I made the decision to homeschool them. This required enormous sacrifice. I sold my car and let go of anything of value to prioritize their well-being and learning environment. Thankfully, they are finally thriving in a place where they feel supported.

This year has brought additional hardships—unexpected dental procedures, out-of-pocket medical expenses, and a recent flood in my nephew’s room that destroyed many of their belongings and left the flooring ruined. I am doing everything I can to repair the damage and replace what was lost, but it has left me with no means to provide even a small Christmas for them.

After everything the children have endured—especially the heartbreaking loss last Christmas—my greatest hope is to give them a holiday that brings comfort, joy, and a little peace. They are remarkable kids: resilient, kind, and deserving of every good thing. It pains me to think of disappointing them during a season that is already emotionally difficult.

Any assistance—whether through gifts, prayers, or simply sharing our fundraiser—would mean more than words can express. Your support would help restore a sense of hope and normalcy for children who have endured more than most their age. I’ve included their Amazon wish lists exactly as they created them.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support or consideration you may offer. We are deeply, genuinely grateful.
Sincerely,
Megan Fernandez Alvarez
