Dear Community,

We are reaching out to you on behalf of Mauro, a beloved local florist at Yorkville Bagel and Cafe on the Upper East Side, who has faced unimaginable hardship recently. Mauro is known for his kindness, selflessness, and tireless work ethic, but now he needs our help.

Just a few months ago, Mauro’s world was shattered when his wife tragically passed away in a car accident. To make matters even more difficult, his daughter, in her 30s, sustained a severe spinal cord injury in the same accident. She is currently bedridden and undergoing intensive physical therapy to regain mobility. Recently, doctors discovered an infection in one of the metal plates in her cervical spine, requiring further surgery and extended hospitalization.

Mauro immigrated to America with dreams of providing a better life for his family. However, due to his immigration status, he is unable to travel back to Mexico where his daughter is receiving treatment. Determined to ensure his daughter gets the best care possible, Mauro is covering all medical expenses out of pocket. This includes not only the surgeries and hospital stays but also extensive rehabilitation sessions that are crucial for her recovery.

As a tight-knit community, we have the opportunity to support Mauro during this incredibly challenging time. The financial burden of medical bills and ongoing care is significant, and any contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference. Your generosity will help alleviate some of the stress and allow Mauro to focus on supporting his daughter through her recovery.
