Help Baby Everett and His Family During Their Medical Journey

On November 5th, our sweet baby boy, Everett, was born full-term via C-section at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence, Alabama at 7:42am weighing in at 7lbs 2oz. What was supposed to be one of the happiest days of their lives quickly turned into a terrifying medical emergency.

Moments after his birth, the medical team noticed that Everett’s color was changing and that he was struggling to breathe. Doctors immediately rushed him away for X-rays and testing. They discovered empty areas where his lungs should be and they were not fully expanding. At first we suspected that he didn’t have enough surfactant, the substance that helps lungs stay open and take in oxygen.

Because North Alabama Medical Center couldn’t provide the level of care he needed, Everett was transferred to Huntsville, AL for treatment. Bradley followed Everett to Huntsville, unfortunately needing to leave Britney behind to be by Everett’s side. There, he was given an artificial surfactant, but heartbreakingly, he didn’t respond to the treatment.

On November 6th, Everett was transferred again, this time to Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham for more specialized care. Despite still recovering from her C-section, Britney checked herself out of the hospital against medical advice so she could be by her baby’s side.

By November 7th, Everett’s condition became even more critical. Doctors still didn’t know the cause of his breathing issues, and because his body couldn’t oxygenate properly, they made the difficult decision to place him on an ECMO machine which is a life-support system that temporarily takes over the function of the heart and lungs to give his body a chance to heal. He also received an EEG to monitor his brain function, as ECMO can sometimes cause complications.

Now, on November 8th, there is a glimmer of hope; Everett is showing small signs of stability. His EEG results came back showing no seizures, and doctors will continue monitoring him for another 24 hours as they search for the underlying cause of his condition.

Meanwhile, Britney and Bradley are three hours away from home, doing everything they can to stay close to their baby boy. Britney’s firstborn, Harper, is back home in Florence being cared for by her dad, while Britney and Bradley face mounting medical bills, travel expenses, and hotel costs as they wait for housing assistance through the Ronald McDonald House which, unfortunately, is currently at full capacity.

This GoFundMe has been created to help relieve the growing financial burden on this family as they focus on what matters most, fighting for Everett’s recovery. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward:

Medical expenses not covered by insurance
Hotel and travel costs while Everett is hospitalized
Meals and daily essentials for the family during this difficult time

Everett is a little fighter, and his parents are doing everything in their power to be by his side through every test, every tube, and every sleepless night. Please consider donating or sharing this page to help support them on this journey.
