Alexa Knodel and Aaron Alexander have a very long road ahead with their new baby, Aleya. What they thought was going to be an easy delivery turned out to be nothing but. One emergent situation after the next for both Alexa and the baby through the whole birthing process with a last minute emergency C section on Sunday, 4/12/26.
Alexa spiked a high fever and her main artery to her uterus suffered a laceration as well as a cervical laceration causing her to lose 2.5 liters of blood. Baby Aleya started to have some fetal distress and ended up going without oxygen for an upwards of 10 minutes causing anoxic injury to her bowel and liver. She became extremely septic and was immediately transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus. She was operated on having a portion of the necrotic bowel removed. The surgery was extremely high risk, but by the grace of God she remained stable with no bleeding throughout the surgery. Baby Aleya's labs are now trending towards normal. She remains stable on the ventilator where they are taking great care of her.
Baby Aleya will have a long bumpy road ahead of her, but we are remaining positive and hopeful during this difficult time.
