Hope and Healing for Ada

Thank you for taking the time to visit this site and for your care and concern for Ada and our family. It has taken a few days for the reality to set in that this CaringBridge site was a part of our future. We have struggled to find the strength and words to share here without being overcome with emotions.

To bring everyone up to speed on Ada's week - She visited student health at Anderson University on Monday morning (10/28) and was immediately advised to go to the ER in Greenville, SC for what was assumed to be appendicitis. After a long process in the ER, it was apparent her appendix was healthy and there was something more serious going on. We made the decision to bring her back to Charlotte and head to the ER at Atrium Health Main to be evaluated. She was ultimately admitted after several days of movement through the hospital and lots of testing that included a night in hallway bed #1, multiple CT scans, ultrasounds, blood work, biopsies of one of her kidneys and bone marrow, a PET scan, a failed PICC line attempt, time spent on floors 6, 3 and finally 4 and the worst hours of waiting in the most agonizing uncertainty and fear to find out what was wrong with our girl. We finally received a preliminary diagnosis of T-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia/Lymphoma. Ada is currently being treated by the Hematology Oncology team at Levine Cancer Institute, and awaiting a full diagnostic report so that a treatment plan can be finalized.

Her team of doctors and nurses are confident that we can chart a treatment course that will be effective for Ada and we are all anxious for treatment to begin. We know that she will be receiving chemotherapy inpatient, so she will be at the hospital for the next 3-4 weeks. The unit she is being treated on has strict visitor protocols due to the patient's compromised immune systems, so her medical team is limiting visits.

Despite the uncertainty and fear that is ever present in this situation, we are filled with hope for successful treatment and a bright future for Ada. We have been surrounded by a community of friends that rallied to our side to offer support, meals and prayers - we can't adequately express our appreciation for that support. Thank you for being a part of that community.

We picked out a Psalm for each of our kids when they were young to have as their own - one to always go back to throughout their life. Ada's in Psalm 27. It is our prayer for her and we would ask you, when praying for her, to pray those verses over her.

We will work to keep this site updated so that your thoughts and prayers can be focused on the latest information. We can't do this alone and are so thankful for God's presence and your support.
