Raising children with significant trauma is a journey filled with love, sacrifice, and sometimes, heartbreaking decisions. My sister Alison had to make one.

As a single parent who has selflessly adopted eight children from foster care, she is now facing overwhelming challenges after making the most difficult decision a parent can make: surrendering one child to Child Protective Services to protect the safety and well-being of the other children in the home.

The children who remain have already endured significant trauma and loss, and in this case, they were victims of their sibling's abusive behaviors. These wonderful kids need time and space to heal. Despite years of seeking every available resource—therapy, church, professional guidance, legal advice, and community support—the situation became too unsafe for the children at home. Law enforcement officers, therapists, and child advocates all recognize that Alison's decision was one of last resort, made out of love and protection for all of the children involved.

Unfortunately, instead of receiving the support and resources that families in crisis need, she is now facing legal battles, financial strain, and the need to continue ongoing therapy for the whole family.
