Honouring Patrick Fearon: Support Community Search & Rescue
On the morning of May 5, 2023, my dear friend Patrick “Paddy” Fearon, just 30 years old, spotted someone struggling in the River Lagan. Without hesitation, he threw a life ring and jumped in to try and save them. Tragically, Paddy lost his life while ensuring another would survive.
We are deeply grateful for the efforts of Community Search and Rescue, who were the first on the scene that night, trying to save Paddy’s life. This fundraiser is our way of showing support for them and honoring Paddy’s legacy.
To honor Paddy’s selflessness and support those who responded to his call for help, I’ll be running the Belfast City half marathon in September on behalf of Community Rescue Service. As the only accredited lowland rescue team in Northern Ireland, they work closely with the Police Service of Northern Ireland to respond to high-risk incidents and search for vulnerable missing persons across the province. Their volunteers risk their lives every day, just as Paddy did, to keep our communities safe.
Why your gift matters:
Equipment & Training: Specialist gear and regular drills ensure teams can perform at their best.
Operational Costs: Fuel, communications, and coordination expenses add up quickly during prolonged searches.
Volunteer Support: Every pound raised helps CRS stay ready, from weekend call-outs to multi-day operations.
Please join me in celebrating Paddy’s final act of heroism by supporting the brave men and women of Community Rescue Service. Together, we can turn one young man’s selfless sacrifice into a lasting force for good.
