Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP and Entropy Inc. (and its shareholders) are mourning the loss of our dear friend Lindsay Rowell. Lindsay passed away peacefully in hospice on May 26, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her husband, Matt Ng, and her two children, Nora (8) and Archer (5), were by her side until her final moments.

Lindsay built a successful commercial litigation and arbitration practice as a Partner at Blakes in Calgary. Her intellect, creativity and work ethic impressed and inspired everyone who had the good fortune to know her. These qualities made her a trusted advocate who was well known for her kindness and generosity. Lindsay took a deep interest in the people around her — a care that found its greatest expression in her roles as a mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. She loved her family, her friends, her clients and the law, and she was a tremendous mentor.

Lindsay’s bright life and promising future took a devastating turn when she was diagnosed with stage 3A breast cancer a year and a half ago. She tackled her diagnosis with the same poise, grace and determination that she brought to her professional and personal life. For a time, it appeared that she’d beaten the cancer — twice — all while continuing her busy practice. This spring, her symptoms returned, and she was admitted to hospital with a terminal condition. Her family and friends rallied around her, but nothing more could be done.

Lindsay’s untimely passing has left her family devastated and is deeply felt across Blakes and Entropy, where Matt works as a geophysicist and leads the subsurface team. Our organizations jointly started this GoFundMe to honour Lindsay by supporting her family as they grieve and face the challenges of adapting to life without her. In addition to financial and other support being provided by our two organizations, Blakes and Entropy (and shareholders) will together match up to $100,000 in donations made through this GoFundMe campaign.

A donation of any amount is meaningful and deeply appreciated by the family. In our effort to help ease the burden of their loss, we are guided by the generosity, spirit and strength that Lindsay brought to everything she did. Our support will help ensure that Matt, Nora and Archer have the resources they need to continue building the life and achieving the dreams they shared with Lindsay.
