UPDATE: A Quick Fundraising Update
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported and donated so far — I really appreciate it!
When I set up the GoFundMe, my original goal was £4,000. This includes re-search, design, manufacturing, installation, public liability and ceremony costs i.e. PA system, staging and photography. Other services include marketing support, project co-ordination, and administration. I also enabled GoFundMe’s automated goal setting, which can automatically increase the displayed target as the fundraiser grows and receives more support.
This is why some of you may have noticed the target increasing. I just wanted to clear up any confusion and reassure everyone that the original goal was £4,000.
Thank you again for all the amazing support! ✂️
My name is Aron, and I’m raising funds to help install a blue plaque on Bellenden Road in London to commemorate the iconic British sitcom Desmond’s.
Desmond’s wasn’t just a television programme—it was a landmark in British television history. Set in a Peckham barbershop, it celebrated community, family, humour and Caribbean-British culture in a way that had rarely been seen on British TV before. Its stories and characters continue to resonate with audiences decades later, making it one of the UK’s most loved sitcoms.
Bellenden Road played a central role in bringing Desmond’s to life, and a blue plaque would provide a lasting tribute to the show’s cultural impact and legacy. It would also give fans, local residents and future generations a place to recognise and celebrate an important part of British television history.
All funds raised will be passed directly to the Nubian Jak Community Trust, the organisation responsible for producing and installing the plaque. None of the money will be retained by me, and every penny raised will be used solely to make this project a reality.
If Desmond’s has ever made you laugh, brought back memories, or helped shape your appreciation of British television, I’d be incredibly grateful for your support. Together, we can ensure its legacy is permanently recognised where it belongs.
Thank you for taking the time to read and support this campaign.
