Honoring the Life of Jason Fitzgerald Smith

On Thursday, June 22nd Jason and Lauren were enjoying a normal night finishing the dishes and getting their son Zion off to bed. They captured a few selfies and Lauren took a sweet, inconspicuous video of the boys from around the corner "just for her mama heart". She couldn't have imagined those would be the last of the precious memories they'd get to make before Jason suddenly experienced severe cardiac arrest that left him fighting for his life.
Lauren called for help immediately and paramedics were miraculously on the scene in 5 minutes. Hours passed, and after several hopeful moments of temporarily bringing him back, God called him home on the early morning of Friday, June 23rd.
Jason never met a stranger; he was a man who loved and cared for the needs of everyone else more than himself. This was shown through his 20+ year career in Hospice Care and a special gifting to create a comforting place in the hardest of circumstances; something we didn't know we'd need to do for him so soon.
He showered everyone around him with encouragement in his tender, yet powerful voice. If you ever doubted yourself, he would check you with a, "C'mon Now...." He was the friend that refused to greet you with a high five or fist bump before a hug, and his hugs were comforting and intentional. He made sure you knew the true definition of "Cheers!", and that making eye contact while clicking your glasses was the only way he'd let you drink from your cup. He took our breath away with his confidence as he became the only man to wear a kilt with absolute swag.
Jason was a man of God who always made his family his first priority, reliably checking in with a text or voice memo to let them know he was thinking about them daily. He was purposeful in everything he did to father his two boys Josiah & Kailen, and his bonus son Zion.
He was the husband that Lauren spent her whole life praying for, and we know God is so faithful in answering prayers in ways only He knows we need them. After just having celebrated their one year anniversary on June 11th, Jason and Lauren were actively planning their upcoming honeymoon and looking forward to what was meant to be a growing family.
The loss of Jason leaves a massive emotional and financial burden for Lauren as she is now left to face the future of moving forward in this life without her protector, her decision-maker, and her true love. Many of you have asked for ways to help and she is so incredibly thankful for your love and support.
Your generosity will relieve the heavy weight of the unexpected funeral and end of life expenses, medical bills, and aid in helping to meet Lauren’s financial living needs as she takes time away to grieve this insurmountable loss.
Every prayer is heard, and every dollar has a massive impact on Lauren and Zion's journey without him.
Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
