Honoring our Fallen Heroes - Ryland's Eagle Scout Project

My name is Ryland Truong, and I am a Life Scout in Troop 722, Castro Valley, CA, and a member of the Order of the Arrow in the Yerba Buena Lodge. I am currently working towards achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. I have been involved in scouting for nearly 9 years, beginning as a Cub Scout in Pack 722. To attain the rank of Eagle Scout, I am required to complete a project that benefits the community.

Each year, my troop and I plant flags on veterans' graves for Memorial Day. Over the years, we have observed the deteriorating condition of some of these graves, which have become overgrown with mold and moss. For my Eagle Scout project, I will lead teams to clean over 1,800 veterans' graves and headstones at Lone Tree Cemetery in Fairview, CA. This project is essential as it demonstrates respect for the veterans and honors their ultimate sacrifice for our country. I aim to complete this project before Memorial Day 2025.

I have received approval from Scouting America’s Golden Gate Area Council, Lone Tree Cemetery, and my Scout Troop to proceed with my project.
