My grandmother Juanita was born and raised in Canton, Mississippi — the daughter of sharecroppers and entrepreneurs. She learned the value of a dollar at a very young age.
During the Great Migration, she made her way north — first Chicago, then Boston, Massachusetts. But she never let go of her Southern roots. Her door was always open. She fed her neighbors. Everybody who knew her called her the ambassador of love.
Before she passed away, she told me — her only grandson — what she wanted for her land back home in Mississippi.
I'm John Luckett, and I'm going to build it: Juanita City. A living community on her land in Canton, starting with sustainable farming — the same soil her people worked, now feeding families the way she fed her neighbors.
The goal is $100,000. Every dollar goes to breaking ground: soil restoration, irrigation, fencing, equipment, and seeds — turning 6 acres of Mississippi land into a working farm that honors her name.
She fed her neighbors with an open door. Help me feed a community with open land.
