Greetings Friends and Relatives,
Jeremy here and it is with much regret that I'm here to inform you of my father Jerry Arviso's passing. He left this world on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at 9:54PM at the Northern Navajo Medical Facility in Shiprock, New Mexico. His untimely passing leaves us with funeral costs we're hoping to raise funds for as he didn't have life insurance or any type of pension. He was a very simple man and lived well below his means with his partner of 32 years, Priscilla. Jerry was born on January 19, 1959 in Gallup, New Mexico and spent much of his life in the four corners right near the San Juan river. He leaves behind his two children, my sister Jessica, myself and one grandchild, my son Landon Arviso. He was also a father to our stepsister Wendolyn and stepbrothers Lucas and Ferguson and a grandpa to their children as well. He was loved and will be dearly missed by all. We've begun arrangements for his burial with the mortuary and cemetery being booked until next week. We are in need of help to cover some of the costs of laying our Dad to rest.
If you knew him, you know how animated and unconventional he was. My father was known for his outlandish behaviour and irrational views about the government. He was a proud Navajo yet often blurred the lines of traditional Diné life ways and contemporary American culture. He was a hot rod builder and my sister and I grew up in some pretty mean rides like his ‘69 GTO Judge, and his ‘72 Dodge Challenger. I’ll always remember the smell of gasoline and oil coming from his rough hands. He could build and drive ANYTHING. He'll be remembered by what he built and also tore down, a man of many stories, some that will never be told. He was mysterious yet predictable, a real wizard. His spirit will live on through his children and loved ones and we'll make sure he's put to rest in a way that he would be proud of.
I love you Pop...
Any donations would be greatly appreciated and our entire family thanks you for your generosity.
