It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of our colleague and friend, Jeremiah J. “JJ” Thompson who unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack on June 1, 2024, at the age of 47. We will all miss him more than words can express. He was not just our co-worker but our good friend as well.

JJ Thompson was a vital part of Unit’s operations team during his nearly 19-year tenure, and his absence will be profoundly missed. He started his career with Unit in September of 2005 as a Floorhand on Rig 112. He was then promoted to Motorhand on Rig 328 in 2007. JJ quickly moved up the ranks as he was promoted to Asst. Driller on Rig 328 in 2008 and then Driller on Rig 329 in 2009. JJ was promoted to Rig Manager on Rig 323 in 2011 and held that title on several other rigs until his promotion to Drilling Superintendent in 2021.

Our company has always believed in the power of community and the importance of supporting causes that matter to our employees. As such, Unit has graciously committed to matching the donations made to JJ’s GoFundMe Account. By matching your donations, we can amplify the positive impact you’re making. Your contributions can now have twice the impact for JJ’s family. Thank you to Chris Menefee; President of Unit Drilling and Phil Frohlich; President and CEO of Unit Corporation for supporting this cause.

Please feel free to send JJ’s wife, Liz and family a sympathy card through the following link https://www.crandallfhevanston.com/obituaries/jeremiah-thompson. Please keep the Thompson family in your thoughts and prayers.
