Our store family at Starbucks on US 301 and Falkenburg recently experienced a sudden and unexpected tragedy. Hugh McChord, a loving father to one of our baristas and a longtime regular, has passed away, leaving an irreplaceable dent in all of our hearts.

He wasn’t just a regular. He was part of our family. Just hours before his passing, Hugh stopped by for his usual drink, a moment that now holds even more meaning for all of us.

Hugh was truly the highlight of our day. He made our store brighter, brought kindness into every interaction, and created genuine connections with baristas. Losing him has left us heartbroken.

Hugh was deeply loved by his beautiful wife, Karine, and their daughters, Jaz and Hannah. He was the best “girl dad" - creative, compassionate, and supportive in every way. He raised thoughtful and caring daughters, and his family absolutely adored him. His love for them was evident in everything he did.

As Hugh’s family begins to navigate this devastating loss, we are coming together to support them with funeral expenses and time away from work to grieve and make arrangements. Funds raised will help cover funeral costs and provide short-term support for living expenses, allowing Karine and the girls to focus on healing without the added financial stress.

We are reaching out to our community, both inside and outside our store, to honor Hugh’s memory and offer support to the people he loved most.
