Honoring Giuseppe's Wishes

Those who knew Joe, knew he was a devoted husband to Sejla and his children were his pride and joy. He worked hard to make sure they never wanted for anything.

Joe's diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer hit like a ton of bricks. Who would have thought a young, healthy vibrant man like him would get dealt with such a devastating hand? But, even throughout his treatments, Joe continued to stay devoted to his career and his family. When Joe underwent his Whipple Procedure, a very major surgery, requiring months and months of recovery, he didn't let him get him down.

We celebrated his clean scans and were optimistic about his future. But sadly, the celebration didn't last long. We soon found out that Joe developed some complications as a by-product of the disease and his procedure. But, still Joe never let things get him down. He was determined not to let it slow him down. He often ignored our pleas to rest. He wanted to enjoy every moment he could with his friends and family.

Then came the news that the cancer had spread into his liver. But, even that didn't get him down. By now, Joe was spending time in/out of the hospital. And he probably knew that he would not be able to work, not the way he always had..with fire and determination. But still, he would go in when he could; it kept him feeling alive...purposeful.

But, ultimately, his health started to decline further and further. That was when he shared with us how worried he was to not be there to provide for Sejla and the kids. It was a common theme in our conversations.

The knowledge that he wouldn't be here for future sporting events, graduations, driving lessons, college... he needed to know that the kids and Sejla would be ok. While we assured him that we would always be there for them, he needed to know HE was doing something for them. That HE would have something done for them when he was gone, something he could close his eyes knowing we would honor.

So to honor his wishes, we established this fund to help with future expenses for Sejla and especially the children.
