Honoring Dr. Peter Preko's Memory

Donation protected

In the early hours of February 21, 2025, the world lost a great man. Dr. Peter Preko dedicated his professional life – and his heart and soul – to the mission of caring for those affected by HIV, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. He worked with ICAP at Columbia University for the past 15 years and most recently directed the CQUIN Network (Coverage, Quality and Impact Network), a learning network funded by the Gates Foundation that aims to shape HIV programming to meet the needs and preferences of recipients of care while supporting the health systems that serve them.

Dr. Preko was beloved and admired by so many across the world. Through patient and gentle encouragement, he inspired others to believe in themselves and to push towards a common goal.
Those who had the privilege of being part of his team saw him as a father figure and a trusted mentor. Through his renowned diplomatic skills, he unified people with different perspectives, instilling in them his enthusiasm and optimism. Always brimming with ideas, thinking of what needs to be done, what could be done better, and making sure to get from here to there, Dr. Preko was an innovative, kind, loyal, elegant and steadfast hero whose work touched countless lives.

With the loss of Dr. Preko, our hearts and those of so many around the world are broken. But, for all who were touched by him, his legacy will endure and his vision will continue.

Dr. Preko left behind a loving wife, Lena and his children Peter Jr, Gabby, and Caleb. For those who would like to support them in their grief may donate.
