For my Eagle Scout Project, I am planning and leading the construction of two memorial benches on the field at Mountain View Academy, as well as creating and installing a memorial sign in the school gym. This project is dedicated to honoring the memory of Matthew Minder, our coach who meant a great deal to the school and everyone in it. He was also a loving son and a great friend to many, someone who truly cared about the people around him and had a lasting, positive impact on their lives.
The current benches on the field are old and broken, so replacing them will give students, staff, and visitors a safe and comfortable place to sit and spend time. The new benches will be made using recycled materials, so they will be strong and better for the environment. Each bench will include a plaque in Coach Matt’s honor. I will also be putting up a sign in the gym to recognize him (There is no sign for the gym currently).
Coach Matt meant a lot to me and to so many others. He was more than just a coach. He was someone you could talk to and count on. He made everyone feel important no matter who they were. He always pushed us to do better, but he also made it fun. He was always positive and brought a lot of energy. Whether it was practice, games, or just talking, he made people laugh and feel comfortable. Some of my best high school memories came from being around him and the team. He didn’t just help us get better at sports—he helped us grow as people. That’s something a lot of us will never forget.
To complete this project, I will lead a team of volunteers to build and install the benches and a gym sign. The money raised will go toward materials like the recycled benches, hardware, concrete, plaques, and the sign. Any extra money will be donated to Mountain View Academy to help the school.
This project is my way of giving back and honoring him because of the difference he made in my life and towards many others. Thank you for your support.
