Honoring a USAF WW2 Lost Hero

Hello friends! My name is John Lindsley. My Uncle "1st Lt. Billy Vincent", was an American pilot in the 389th Fighter Squadron in WW2. He was shot down and killed while protecting the town of La Motte-Fouque, France. On August 13th, 1944, Lt. Billy Vincent saved the town from Nazi heavy equipment. His P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft “Sweet Shirlee” was hit by flak while raiding the German convoy; upon which LT Vincent managed to eject but did not survive due to his parachute getting caught in the plane’s tail.

The French town of La Motte-Fouque has honored my uncle for over 70 years. They even named a road after him. There is a monument consisting of a large rock from the crash site with an informational plaque, that has been erected in the town square. The town was unaware of any kinfolk to LT Billy Vincent still being alive.

The town has invited my family and I to the ceremony this year. This will be the first time the town has had the honor of any American attending this memorial. Please google " Lt. Billy Vincent" to see the history of his sacrifice. The town’s residents are very excited to have our family for the grand ceremony of their saving hero this August.

Our military family with 11 family members, including two disabled Veterans, will proudly be representing the United States of America. Any contribution will help with making this once in a lifetime trip happen to commemorate a fallen WW2 hero. Just the airline tickets alone are very expensive not to mention transportation with all other expenses while traveling out of the country. Contributions will be divided between the family members to help with these expenses.
