On the 6th of October, 2024, Shari Renee Mathews passed away surrounded by family. She was not in any pain and did not suffer ; she smiled and laughed until the end. She was 62 years old. Shari was diagnosed with cancer in her lower esophagus in July 2024, less than three months prior to her passing. She did not want a ceremony of any kind. Our mother’s only wish was for her son, David, to get the best care possible.
Our brother, David, was born with a traumatic brain injury due to his umbilical cord being wrapped around his neck in utero. Our mother, Shari, has always taken great care of David since he was born 40 years ago. She has always been David’s biggest advocate and showered him with love constantly, as she did for all of her children. It has always been our intention to keep David with family who could continue to love and support him, through any event. Although, we never dreamed that our mother would pass so soon after her diagnosis, we will persevere in these hard times. David will live in the home of his brother, Robert and his wife, Megan, and their three children. There, we can ensure David has the best care possible and fulfill our mother’s wish.
Our hope is to raise enough money to remodel and modify a portion of Robert’s home so David may have 24/7 care, as well as a sense of peace, independence, and dignity for the rest of his life. We will construct for David, his own “in-law” style suite next to the house in Indianapolis. 100% of funds raised will go toward the housing and support of David in our mother’s honor.
Sincerely,
David Mathews
