Honor Penfield's 1000 Ancestors with Granite Markers.

Donation protected
Dear All,

I hope you all are having a great start to the year! As most of you know, I am in the process of getting my Eagle rank in Boy Scouts, and a big part of that is my Eagle Scout project. I will be constructing benches for Penfield's Historic African American Cemetery, and I am currently in the middle of my project. In the past couple of years, I have done several workdays at Penfield African American Cemetery—moving logs and cleaning up gravestones at Penfield, participating in projects with both YMSL (Young Men's Service League) and scouts, and building a solid connection with other volunteers, community members, and the site itself.

Therefore, in addition to the benches, I'd like to do something more and I hope you will help. I want to help raise the necessary funds so that the cemetery can mark more than 1,000 unmarked graves that have been identified through ground-penetrating scanning on the nearly 4 acres of land. The markers are made out of granite and cost about $9 apiece, plus equipment for placing them. I am hoping to raise most of the required $10,000 through friends and family so that the ancestors laid to rest in this cemetery get their proper recognition. Every donation helps and is greatly appreciated! All funds will be used to support markers, materials for bench installation, related needs at Penfield, and recognition for African American residents of Greene County in partnership with the Greene County African American Museum.
