The Kevin Lee Bass Scholarship Fund was established by his family and friends following his death in 2008. The fund provides a scholarship to a graduating student/athlete from Alexander Hamilton High School, Elmsford, NY. As Kevin's 70th birthday approaches on April 7, 2025 please help us reach our goal to raise $3000 this year in his honor to support a worthy student/athlete pursuing further education! We are asking that you support this cause by donating $70 or any amount your choose to honor Kevin’s birthday!
To date, the committee has provided 16 Scholarships totaling over $30,000 to deserving students to help cover the costs associated with a post graduate education. The student/athlete must be in good academic standing and have participated in at least 2 years of a varsity sport. In addition, the candidate must have demonstrated strong community pride and involvement and be entering an educational institution in the fall of the graduating year.
Thank you in advance for supporting this scholarship!!
Background:
On June 3, 2008, our brother, Kevin "Fish" Bass was called to join God. We, the family and friends of Kevin have continued his legacy by establishing a scholarship in his honor so that the impact of his life will continue to inspire the youth of our community.
Kevin Bass was a very compassionate, witty and loving man. Kevin attended Alexander Hamilton High School and graduated in 1973. He played Varsity Basketball and ran Cross Country for 4 years. In 1972, he was on the Hamilton team that jumped from Class C to Class AA (an unprecedented move), in what was termed by The Journal News as the “game of the century”, to battle Mt. Vernon High School at the Westchester County Center. In 1973, he was the Vice President of his class at Hamilton. After graduating from Hamilton, he excelled both academically and athletically at Iona College, where he was inducted into the Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame. In 2018, Kevin was inducted posthumously into the Westchester Sports Hall of Fame.
Kevin was a serious student and felt that he could excel at anything he put his mind to. One mantra Kevin learned in high school and use to repeat is “PRIDE, SACRIFICE AND DESIRE”. Kevin felt very strongly about athletics, family and most of all his community. He mentored many young people by teaching them basketball skills, giving life lessons, financial support and even job leads to help them along their way. Although Kevin was tragically taken from us in 2008, he continues to live in all of our hearts.
