Honor Kathleen Wicker: Support UD EMS

Donation protected
Hi! This page is dedicated to help raise funds for UD EMS to spread the message about Breast Cancer Awareness. With the recent loss of Kathy Wicker, two of her grandchildren, Emily Burgess and Joseph Niederschmidt, wish to raise funds to honor her in the form of new uniform shirts for UD EMS. Joseph and Emily are hoping to raise enough money to fund the shirts for the students in UD EMS. All donations given to this Gofundme will directly fund these shirts to donate to the students in UD EMS. They will be worn for the entirety of October, in replacement of our usual, navy uniform shirts. Any extra funds will be donated to the UD EMS organization Emily and Joseph hold dearly to their heart, in helping students have easier access to medical care during emergency situations on campus.

In loving memory of our cherished grandmother, Katheen Wicker, whose warmth and wisdom touched every soul she met, we are heartbroken to share that she has passed away after a long, brave battle with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Her life was a beautiful story of love, kindness, and unyielding strength. Kathy always had a special way of making everyone feel valued and understood, her stories and laughter filling our hearts with joy. Her legacy of compassion and grace will forever remain a guiding light and path of service for those close to her. Within the past year of Kathy's life, even through times of disorientation and confusion, whenever she saw Emily or Joe, she knew to say, "Wee Woo," mimicking the ambulance sirens for her two EMT-certified grandchildren.

The University of Dayton Emergency Medical Services is a student organization component of Public Safety and is comprised of approximately 42 full-time undergraduate students and 18 students in training who volunteer their time serving the campus community as nationally registered and state certified Emergency Medical Technicians. The students strive to maintain in service, 24 hours a day, for seven days a week, providing basic medical care and ambulatory rides to the hospital to students on campus for free. The organization is nonprofit, so anything new added into our goals for the year are by donation. Emily Burgess, Kathy's granddaughter, is a Crew Chief/Lead and the Assistant Chief of Personnel for the organization, while Joseph Niederschmidt, Kathy's grandson, is a second-year member in the organization and a crew member.

This October, as we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Emily and Joe are dedicating their efforts to raise funds in loving memory and honor of their cherished grandma, to help bring further awareness to Breast Cancer and its impact on many lives. Her courageous fight against breast cancer and the profound impact she had on their lives inspire this heartfelt campaign. With your support, they hope to honor her legacy and bring comfort to others facing similar battles. Every contribution will help keep her spirit alive and support a cause close to their hearts.
