It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Dr. Tadesse Mizan Teka, whom we lost on July 8, 2025. His body is currently resting at Columbia Funeral Home in Seattle, while family, friends, and members of the Tigrean community Association gather to honor his memory and comfort one another.
Tadesse was a thoughtful, principled, and visionary journalist, known widely for his program “Media Dasesa” and “30 Minutes,” where he brought clarity and context to global issues. He had recently earned his Ph.D., marking a lifetime of academic dedication, professional maturity, and a deep commitment to using media and communication as forces for development and social progress.
He leaves behind a loving wife and children in Addis Ababa, as well as a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and community members who mourn his loss deeply.
Why We Are Fundraising
This GoFundMe campaign is being organized by the Tigrean community Association and his Seattle based family to:
• Cover the full costs of funeral arrangements and the international shipment of his body to Ethiopia
• Support his wife and children as they cope with this unexpected tragedy
• Ensure that his passing is handled with dignity, transparency, and communal respect
All funds will be transferred to Tigrean Community Association (EIN 91-1590853) Keybank checking account and fully accounted for. Any amount remaining after funeral and shipping costs will be transferred directly to his family in Ethiopia by the Association.
Memorial and Updates
Before the body is transported to Addis Ababa, a memorial service will be held in Seattle on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Columbia Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 4567 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA, 98118. You are warmly invited to attend this final send-off and join us in paying tribute to his life.
