Homes for the homeless in Franklin County VA

Good morning everyone. As many know I assist the homeless and needy in Franklin County VA and we have now exceeded beyond a crisis level in Franklin County, VA. Franklin County doesn’t currently have a homeless shelter for overnight guests and there are many obstacles facing all of us when we have to relocate them to the closest overnight shelter(that just within a couple of weeks opened back up to out of town guests due to Covid), which is in Roanoke, VA, thirty to forty minutes away. For the last several months some private donors, secret angels, etc has been assisting in the purchase of twelve campers but their funds have now run dry. We still have individuals, families with children, disabled, vets and the elderly homeless in tents and it is continuing to get worse due to the pending foreclosures, evictions, rental properties being sold, etc.

I’ve been trying to come up with every possible idea or plan I can to secure these people in some type of structure before winter gets here. This isn’t a permanent solution but this is working and allows them to have some type of home until Franklin County and the Town of Rocky Mount finds a solution to fix this problem and finds a solution for more affordable housing.

I have three different tracts of land that I have access to place more tents on and lots more campers on but I need assistance in purchasing these “homes”.

This particular motor home isn’t currently running however I have a pledge from someone to pay for it to be towed to one of the “communities”. It’s a very large motor home and can sleep six easily so this one may be for a family with children or I may “bunk” two to three homeless individuals in it. I’m not exactly sure yet who will be going into it but it will definitely be someone who is already living in s tent, tobacco barn, car, vacant trailer or house or couch surfing.
