Crankin Wheel Women: Braking The Cycle

You're warm and safe tonight, but not everyone is 'Home, Safe Home'.

It’s time for us to end homelessness, not just manage it. We need your help to get people experiencing homelessness off the streets today, to make a tangible difference. At the basic level a home is simply a shelter, it’s somewhere to store your possessions, it’s somewhere to cook a meal, a place to sleep. But a home is more than just four walls and a roof, a home provides safety and security that most of us take for granted every single day.

For the Crankin Wheel Women this has been a recent topic over coffee, a group of like-minded women who ride together and whom, like many other early morning cyclists are confronted with the realities of people doing it tough, sleeping rough on our streets of Perth.

As a group of women who share a passion for cycling and supporting community, they have called on the wider female cycling community in Perth to take part in a ride around the Swan River to raise awareness and funds for ending homelessness during Homelessness Week.

The goal is to have 50 riders on the start line who will donate $50 as their registration fee, and have the opportunity to raise further funds as they set out to collectively make a difference. The proceeds from this ride will go to the '50 Lives, 50 Homes' program, which will get someone experiencing homelessness off the streets and into a home with wraparound services to support them getting back on their feet.

The first thing a person needs to be an active member of society is a home. ‘Housing First’ is a proven approach to ending homelessness and all it takes to support one person getting off the street is $4,500. Every $4,500 gets someone into a home and every contribution to the cause is deeply appreciated.

This year let’s actually end homelessness for someone, let’s see how many people we can get off the streets this winter
