Homeless Protection Baskets (COVID-19) Oshawa
Donation protected
The Government of Canada has done its best to mitigate the economic hardship that has affected Canadian citizens during this pandemic. Sadly, these incentives only benefit those that have lost income to this pandemic. The demographic that never had a source of income to begin with, much less a home to self-isolate in, continues to suffer.
Within our own communities, homeless people are in need of protection and relief. As stores and businesses begin reopening and we see glimmers of normal life, however, the homeless will continue to suffer from the effects of COVID-19. In Oshawa, housing insecurity, higher downtown unemployment, lack of access to long term addictions treatment, frequent evictions of tent cities among other factors before the pandemic hit had forced people to homelessness, with the pandemic only worsening this. Now homeless people face not only shelters running at reduced capacities and higher risks of COVID-19 due to inability to social distance, but also are lacking necessities as people carry the mindset that the crisis is winding down.
Our goal is to provide relief and protection from COVID-19 to the most vulnerable segment of society. With your donations, we will create and distribute baskets containing essential sanitary, dental, and protective items to the homeless.
The ever-increasing toll of this pandemic is felt by us all, but with the help of Durham Region citizens like you, we can try and soften its impact on our less fortunate compatriots. We are hoping to reach our goal by July 31st, 2020. Let's make it happen!
