‘Hero’: Homeless man pins bloody suspect in Kenmore store stabbing until police arrive
When the beloved owner of Kenmore's Town Market was stabbed, Steven Degroot, who lives with his wife in a tent nearby, heard the screams and, at great personal risk to himself, jumped in to save the day.
He was able to restrain the attacker until police arrived.
It is no small thing, to risk one's life in service of a neighbor, especially to one who already has their own fair share of hardship.
I volunteered to make this GFM at the request of the Kenmore Neighbors Facebook Group. 100% of the proceeds will go to Steven Degroot. I am relatively new to Kenmore, but in the ~8 months I've spent here, I'm already impressed with the sense of community that is embued in this small town. If desired, I will work with a trusted 3rd party (perhaps a city council member?) to distribute the funds. If he is unbanked, I can work with Mr. Degroot to either set up a checking account (after researching one that would be particularly appropriate for his position; no fees for low balances, etc), get the money to him in cash, or in whatever form of disbursement he desires. Mr. Degroot has only been living there for two months. I don't know his full story, but let's come together and help this brave man get back on his feet!
Good Samaritan stops violent stabbing at Kenmore convenience store
"I’m glad I was there and my grandmother said God put me on this earth for a reason obviously" -- Steven Degroot (https://twitter.com/YamsTV/status/1232303483463880704)
If any news comes in of material things that Mr. Degroot wants, which could be donated by someone in the community, I will update this post.
If any local businesses want to offer "free meal every week for Local Hero" style thank-yous, I will post about it and highlight it here!
