Building portable shelters for Creswell homeless
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Bill Kent, and along with my friend Ed Gunderson, we are building original, movable Conestoga huts to provide a safe place for people to sleep. These shelters offer more than just a roof—they provide security, privacy, and the opportunity to regain a sense of dignity.
Because of past support, 5 out of the 6 individuals we’ve helped are now in permanent housing, and 2 are working close to full-time hours. These outcomes show that stability and security can truly make a difference. Your donations have made this possible. But the need continues, and we need your help to build more shelters.
The city code requires that these shelters be moved every 72 hours, which makes it incredibly difficult to create stability for those who need it most. Some say, we are enabling people who are experiencing homelessness, but what does that really mean?
We’ve provided minimal, secure, dry shelter with privacy and independence.
We’ve enabled people to have safe working bicycles for transportation to work and social services.
We’ve helped connect them with food, medicine, and social services.
Being secure and dry has significantly reduced stress, improving both physical and mental health.
These shelters have provided a stable location for social services to stay in contact with the individuals, ensuring they don’t fall through the cracks.
In addition to the shelters themselves, there is another critical need: access to a portable water source. Funds raised will also go toward building a simple, portable water system to provide drinking water and basic hygiene options, further improving the quality of life for those using the shelters.
We’re incredibly grateful for the individuals, and organizations, who have already donated their time, resources, and support.
Please consider donating today to help us continue providing this critical support. Your contribution will go directly toward purchasing building materials for additional shelters, constructing a portable water system, and ensuring that no one has to face the cold, wet months without a safe place to sleep.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
