Our latest census (from 2021) tells us that 122,494 Australians are experiencing homelessness in some form every single night. The number of individuals experiencing homelessness in Sydney continues to increase with the cost of living, with currently 1,623 people sleeping on the streets of Sydney.

Our names are Eliza Hennessy and Samantha Bing, and we care very passionately about those experiencing homelessness. The extreme shortage of social and affordable housing is creating a huge challenge in helping individuals who are experiencing homelessness get off the streets, couches or their cars. People experience homelessness for many different, complex and potentially traumatic reasons, with the current rental crisis and cost of living impacts the number of people experiencing homelessness continues to increase. Eliza and I began the Homeless Christmas Drive in 2016 and now 8 years later we are still continuing our work, thanks to the amazing generosity of many people who support our work.

Because of this generosity Eliza and I have been able to provide packs with sleeping bags, blow up pillows, gift vouchers to Woolworths, deodorants, wipes, re-useable water bottles, blankets, beanies, tampons, pads, hairbrushes and all sorts of essential items that are necessary for everyday life. The aim of the HCD is to provide those experiencing rough homelessness in Sydney to wake up on the happiest day of the year, Christmas morning, the same way we do, filled with love and happiness. Our hope is that one day our Christmas packs aren't needed because there won't be any homeless, but until then, we strive to reach every single homeless man, women or child sleeping it rough in Sydney CBD on Christmas Eve and during winter.

We hand deliver these packs, with a friendly smile and conversation. We have been touched by many stories and hardships and we are always learning and growing. We hope to constantly work on and improve the Homeless Christmas Drive to provide packs with items those experiencing homelessness need.

100% of the money raised in this campaign goes directly towards buying these necessities. The HCD is NOT a registered charity or organisation, just two women trying to make a positive change in this world, one small step at a time.
