Homeless and disabled with 3 children

My wife became disabled in August 2018 and is now in a wheelchair.  She has been in the hospital for 5 months. She has been waiting on paperwork to get her long-term disability income.  At the same time I was in the hospital as well.  Both of our employers let us go while we were in the hospital.

We have 3 children that have been ours for 8 years - ages 13, 14 and 16 and 2 adult children.  We went from having a life where we were able provide for our family to one where we both have been unable to work. We have not been able to pay our rent or utility bills, have Christmas for our family and at this point even buy food.

I received my first unemployment payment this week, but we now have to be out of our home in the next two weeks due to nonpayment.

My my wife has been waiting for 3 months to receive her disability income but the insurance company continues to delay requesting additional information from doctors going back years each time we send them what they have asked for.

My wife can not get up and down stairs in our home to be able to answer the door, let the dogs out or get out of the house by herself if there is a fire.

We must find a place to live within the next two weeks but have spent all money we had on medical bills.  We need to be able to pay a security deposit and first month rent.  Please help us. We are hard working parents that just want to give our kids a chance. They had a failed adoption before us.  They are our kids now. Please help us to be able to provide a home to them.  Despite only having disability income and unemployment we do not qualify for any help from the state of New Jersey or the federal government even though we haven’t received disability payments for three months.

We are moving to Florida to allow my wife to be able to get around in her wheel chair and live in an affordable neighborhood.  Housing costs are too expensive on the east coast to live in a neighborhood where our kids can be safe.

We never thought we would end up in this situation. While I am not proud of where we are currently we have run out of options before becoming homeless.

We are moving to find a more affordable home and leaving behind almost everything we have just to have a place to live.

I get some people will not understand how this could happen, but sometimes things in life are beyond your control.  What matters to me now is being able to feed my children and give them a place to live as well as making sure my wife can get around in a wheel chair and get in and out of whatever house we can find.

We may be down now but we will be back on our feet.   I know God will take care of us.

God bless and thank you for your consideration.
