On Friday October 2nd, Alex and Alan Remsen were out working in their yard, when they saw black smoke coming out of their eves of their home. Immediately they called 911, but their rural location meant help wouldn’t arrive for more than 40 minutes. They started hauling water from the creek in their back yard to the attic, they had it almost contained. They went back for another five gallons of water, when the winds picked up and drove the remaining embers to fully engulf their home
they attempted to get back inside to get out any of their belongings, but their efforts were thwarted by heavy smoke.
Alan who is medically disabled (limited income with only SSI&APA), with upper respiratory issues as it is, is currently in a medically induced coma due to 2nd degree smoke inhalation... he was coughing up soot before the ambulance took him to the hospital.
He is typically on oxygen at all times.
Alex is 17 a senior in high school, doing distance learning due to his dads health.
He helps care for his dad too, when it is needed.
All of their personal belongings were destroyed, all of the contents of their home as well.
They will need to build a temporary structure to get them through the winter, and at this time they do not have the funds to do so...
If you’re able to donate to help them get the things they need, they will be forever grateful.
