My name is Staryn Wagner but I don't matter here at all, I just wanted you to know that this is being done by someone besides the people who need the help. They don't have a computer or know what gofundme is. The names that matter are Ramiro "Ram", Ofelia, Elexus, Ariel, Matthew and Anthony. They are my neighbors of fourteen years and have lived in and have been paying for their house since 1976.
Freshly out of the Army and newly married Ram bought into the American dream. The house he and Ofelia purchased, on the outskirts of Austin, Texas, has been home to four generations. Although Ram himself has no children he has been father, grandfather and great-grandfather to them all.
In 2004 Ram and Ofelia took custody of three of their great-grandchildren--ages one, three, and five. Ram continued to work, raise the children, and care for his aging wife. Around that time he fell victim to a predatory lender while trying to cover his taxes. Ram had a stroke and fell behind on his payments after which he was unable to keep up with the rapidly accruing penalties and fees. The bank is now threatening to foreclose on the house and has begun the proceedings.
The oldest great-granddaughter is now living with an aunt and is almost done with high school. The middle great-granddaughter is in her sophomore year of high school and has aspirations of going to culinary school and becoming a chef. Though the youngest has severe behavioural and learning disabilites he is progressing in school thanks to the stable home life and constant, loving attention from Ram and Ofelia. In addition they are providing in home care for their adopted son, who has terminal cancer.
Uprooting this family and throwing their hard earned stability into disarray doesn't need to be how this story ends. Instead of allowing the system to throw the children back to child protective services, send Ofelia to state funded indigent care, place her youngest son in a state hospital, and leave Ram heartbroken and alone, we can help them. The money we donate can help them buy back the title from the bank.
To see this family that I have known for fourteen years, that has become part of my family, not have to live under the fear of losing their home and each other, thanks to the kindness of Americans such as yourself would mean a lot to me.
But your kindness would mean a lot more to them. If you can please donate something.
Thank you.
I had to raise the amount because of the 8% the site takes for the fundraising. Also this money does not include any repairs to the house, just the title.
