Motivation and Mission of Pratyusha Girls' Home (PGH)
Despite many initiatives of the Government and other agencies in the past decades, the life of these tribal people needs much to be done, especially children who get orphaned due to one or both parents dying. Life for such children is pathetic and especially for the girls.

There was a need to provide a facility for such orphaned tribal girls to seek shelter in a home that provides them with a life of dignity.

TERDS (Tribal Educational Rural Development Society) accepted the responsibility in 2009 to run the home. With this Noble Aim - Pratyusha Girls Home was started.

All legal approvals were obtained from the Govt to run the Girls' Home.

Support needed immediately:
  • Running the PGH involves - Food, Personal requirements, Health, Sports and entertainment, Building maintenance, Office expenditure & Staff remuneration. The estimated expense per month per child is Rs. 6,000 (or Rs. 72,000 per annum per child)
  • Annual expenditure (of supporting 75 girls at PGH): Rs. 5.4 million ($67,000)
  • The funds raised from this GoFundeMe campaign will be deposited in a fixed deposit (FD) which should provide stable recurring funding of ~Rs. 640,000 (@8% APR on $100,000, at an exchange rate of 1 USD = 80 INR). This will ensure guaranteed funding in perpetuity for essential food supplies.

Journey of PGH
  • 2007 - An initiative by an individual in 2007 resulted in a home for orphan tribal girls in Chinnaburuguput Village, Hukumpet Mandal, Dist Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India
  • 2008 - The Home was run for two years and the then organizers left. TERDS working since 1993 in that area took up the moral responsibility and formed a village committee (VC) to run the home.
  • 2009 - When the VC failed to run the home, TERDS accepted the responsibility in 2009 to run the home with the help of contributions from the Society - Individuals, Organizations, Institutions
  • 2009-16 - TERDS started with no resources. Help was sought from individuals and organizations. Managed to keep the Home running in a rented place and meeting only the barest needs of the children.
  • 2017-19 - PGH supported by The Hans Foundation (Sufficient support for the overall growth of Children. 70 children on average were the inmates during the period). The legal approval has been renewed by the Govt.
  • 2019-20 - Withdrawl of The Hans Foundation end of the financial year 2018-19 - PGH started facing difficulties to raise funds that are essential for maintaining the home.
  • 2021 -23 - Covid-19 had a significant negative impact on individual donations and PGH continues to face more difficulties in raising funds.
