The Vision of Founder Carolyn Oglesby

This journey began with Carolyn Oglesby, the baby of 11 girls, whose heart to serve came from her mother. Carolyn grew up watching her mother feed not only her 11 daughters but also their friends and neighbors, despite barely having enough for her own family. Her mother’s selflessness left an indelible mark, and though Carolyn lost her mom at just 16, she carried her legacy forward.

In 2005, Carolyn founded Susie’s Angels in honor of her mother—a tribute to the woman who taught her that giving to others is the greatest gift. What started as small acts of kindness, like adopting families in DC-area shelters and feeding the homeless monthly, has now grown into a mission that uplifts entire communities. Today, this legacy continues through HKMOTS, headquartered in Desoto, Texas, where we are dedicated to providing shelter, resources, and a path to independence for women and children in need.

The Story of Barrows Villa

At the heart of Home 4 the Winter is Barrows Villa, a property on HKMOTS Land that has already provided refuge for families over the past three years. Women like Angela, a mother who came to us fleeing an unsafe situation, found hope within these walls. With a safe space and support, Angela regained her confidence, secured stable work, and rebuilt a brighter future for her children.

Now, we’re expanding this impact to serve seven women and children.

But Barrows Villa is more than a home—it’s a foundation for empowerment, offering:

• Safe, stable housing for families in need.

• A 6-month career development program with life skills, job readiness, and personal growth opportunities to foster independence.

Our Goal: $500,000 by February 14, 2025

To make this vision a reality, we need your help. The funds will:

• Pay off the existing mortgage, ensuring the program’s long-term stability.

• Expand housing capacity to shelter seven women and children.

• Launch transformative programs to help families thrive beyond housing.
