Holme Lane Bridge Repair

Hi my name is Andy Smith,owner of Glebe House and owner of 50% of Holme Lane Bridge - the other 50% is unregistered.

I have arranged for a construction company to repair the bridge over 5 days starting Monday 4th November 2024.

All 17 houses and Nursing Home in the hamlet will receive a letter explaining the work being carried out.

Whilst our legal responsibility is simply to maintain the bridge to enable people to walk across it - as a ‘Bridleway’ (It is NOT officially a road designated for Vehicular access as per Lancs County Council judgement issued in 2022) I am sure you will agree all residents want the bridge reinstated to previous standards, the barrier permanently removed and ability to drive our cars across every day.

Lancs County Council in recent weeks have assessed the bridge and stated it is structurally sound, and are about to put up new signs with a 10 ton weight limit.

The estimated repair cost to reinstate the bridge to previous standard is £25,000. All work is being carried out by a local Professional Construction company. Crane Hire is also required.

We all use and rely upon the bridge to access our homes. Unfortunately Lancs county Council have made it clear this is a private matter and no public funds are available - we need to raise the monies ourselves.

Ryan Godwin, owner of Holme Manor Care home and myself have spent considerable time since 2022 resolving this matter and have both also pledged significant funds towards the total cost.

For all of you whom rely upon the bridge to access your home I therefore appeal to you to make a donation to help with the repair of the bridge - hopefully solving the issue for many years to come.

For those of you whom kindly offer a donation, once the work has been completed I will provide a full breakdown of all monies raised and spent on the project.
