Hollie is running Brighton Marathon on 6th April 2025!

Hi everyone!

I’m excited to share that I am running Brighton Marathon, and this year, I’m running for something incredibly close to my heart: Brighton Beach Patrol.

Brighton Beach Patrol is close to my heart as it saves lives every weekend, whether this be people struggling with their mental health or entering the sea when they are intoxicated. Their aim is to keep people save and to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel and to have a supportive arm around you in your most desperate times can be one that saves your life. Within the first year they had reduced not only drownings, but sexual assaults, suicides, physical assaults and beach fires. We soon gained a reputation with local businesses and residents as a point of call to report concerns for people near the waters edge or in distress on the promenade.

Brighton Beach Patrol is a registered non profitable charity, helping to save lives & protect the vulnerable, Brighton Beach Patrol was set up in 2015 as a response to increasing concerns for public safety along the shoreline and lower promenade, noticing an increase in Intoxicated related drownings including a death of 2 young males who entered the water intoxicated for a dare, The felt that presence and intervention was the key to reducing further drownings within our city.

With approval from Brighton and Hove City Council and Sussex Police Brighton Beach Patrol were given authorisation to patrol between the Brighton Pier and the i360 using a quad bike on a Friday and Saturday nights till the early morning of the following day.

Their initial aim was to intercept members of the public attempting to enter the sea whilst intoxicated, however, our presence very quickly resulted in carrying out a wide range of other tasks, including:

Safeguarding
Vulnerability
Mental Health
Crime Prevention
Missing Persons
Predatory behaviour
Beach Fires.

Any donations would help keep Brighton Beach Patrol Operating and carry on saving lives every weekend on Brighton Beach.
