Holiday Gifts for Foster kids in DeKalb County
Donation protected
For the past 5 years I have helped organize a holiday gift drive for kids in foster care in DeKalb county. The past two years we have gathered gifts for over 250 kids each year!
Because of COVID, we are unable to safely ask folks to shop, physically bring gifts to a specific location, have me handle all the gifts and deliver to the CASA office and have all the CASA staff visit each home.
Instead, the CASA staff will be using these funds to purchase the gifts and shipping directly to the homes of the foster kids. While this is definitely not the most fun way to offer gifts, it is the safest option and these kids absolutely need our support this year as I'm sure their lives are upside down more than usual.
If you cannot afford to give, please share with others, but it's totally ok if you cannot give. We understand this is a hard time for everyone. But if you can give, we'd greatly appreciate it.
From CASA about how foster kids are dealing with COVID:
"Now that the holidays are upon us more challenges arise. Many foster families are facing financial hardships due to COVID-19. Our children are often separated from their siblings and other loved ones. At the holidays, this separation is even more difficult. While we cannot "fix" all that they are going through, we aim to make the holidays a little brighter. "
$25 - supports gifts for 0-5 year old child
$50 - supports gifts for 6-10 year old child
$75 - supports gifts for 11-15 year old child
$100 - supports gift cards for teenagers & gifts for teens
$150 & $200 - some children ask for items slightly more like a nintendo switch, xbox, playstation, chromebooks, tablets...etc that we can get for about $150-200 so if you are able to contribute this amount you will absolutely be helping!
$25,000 is averaging out about $100 for each of the 250 kids. This is in line with what we have spent in the past, volunteers spending about $20,000 on gifts themselves and me raising about $10,000 to buy chromebooks & tablets...etc
