This holiday season, STR8 UP is partnering with Light Fires (Faculty of Native Studies, U of A) for our 4th annual fundraiser in support of a Holiday Meal and Care Packages for folks incarcerated in Saskatchewan.
Together, we will provide a Christmas dinner and care packages to approximately 70 individuals that STR8 UP works with in the federal prison system. STR8 UP members will be involved in cooking, serving, and enjoying this collective meal together. We also hope to provide cards and small gifts that folks can send to their children on the outside in time for the holidays. We hope to come together to show collective care to more than 100 people through this initiative.
STR8 UP believes that showing those who are incarcerated that they are valued and cared for can have a profound impact on their mental health and on our potential for individual and collective transformation. When community extends care to those in prison, it fosters empathy, kindness, and solidarity. Remembering incarcerated individuals during the holidays reflects a broader commitment to justice and the well-being of all community members.
Thank you in advance for all of your support :)
With gratitude,
Nancy (on behalf of Light Fires) &
Stan (on behalf of STR8 UP)
